Time To Clean Out The Clutter: What Do You Need To Let Go Of?

Spring has sprung!  And summer is on the doorstep!  Actually, the current heat wave is telling us that summer is already here!

So let’s get going, Ladies, and clean out all the clutter and excess stuff that weighs you down!

I’m not just talking about the PHYSICAL CUTTER, but also the MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL CLUTTER that is holding you back from living a more meaningful and satisfying life!

LET’S START WITH THE PHYSICAL CLUTTER

We all have excess stuff, and we hate getting rid of it!  So we cram our house, garage, attic, basement, and even storage units with all our unused possessions, just in case . . .

It’s hard to let go of things that have memories attached to them, but letting go of possessions can also be very liberating.

Deciding which items you need to purge is easier said than done!  You need a stiff upper lip to go through this process!  But it’s worth it in the end!

After downsizing to a smaller and more manageable home last year I can attest to how difficult this process can be, but also to how freeing it is to live with less “stuff”. More time for other interesting and satisfying pursuits.

Recently, it has become a national movement to downsize and declutter for Baby Boomers and people of all ages.

It’s probably best to give up the idea that your children will want your possessions. Most won’t! I’m sure there are some adult children who will take these items off their parents’ hands, but most won’t need or want them  That has been my own experience, and that of many others.

WHAT TO DO?  GOOD QUESTION:  You can put items up for sale online, hire an estate auction house, donate to you favorite charity, and finally, send some things to the trash.

IT SOUNDS BRUTAL, DOESN’T IT?  Having just gone through it I know that it is heart wrenching to let go of things that have meaning for you, but not for anyone else.  It’s tough but it can be done.

It’s very liberating to let “stuff” go and realize you can live happily with less!

THE BEST THING ABOUT DECLUTTERING YOUR PHYSICAL SPACE IS THAT IT FREES YOU UP TO FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION ON MAKING LIFE MORE FULFILLING AND LESS CUMBERSOME IN OTHER WAYS!

NEXT LET’S FOCUS ON CLEANING OUT YOUR  “PSYCHIC CLUTTER”

A FAVORITE QUOTE:  “Clutter is not just physical stuff.  It’s old ideas, toxic relationships, and bad habits.  Clutter is anything that does not support your better self.”  Eleanor Brownn

It’s the clutter you don’t see because it’s not tangible. It resides in your mind and in your thoughts, and it’s destructive.

It includes those ideas and behaviors that hold you back from reaching your goals, from achieving peace of mind, and from creating a more satisfying life. IT’S TIME TO CLEAN THEM OUT!

SELF-LIMITING BELIEFS: ROADBLOCKS THAT HOLD YOU BACK

These are ideas that sabotage your ability to see yourself as a worthwhile woman and they create the mindset that you are “not good enough”.

Most of us struggle with these feelings at times, but they’re damaging to our sense of self if they are persistent over time.

Do these sound familiar?

I’m not thin enough, I’m not attractive enough, I’m not educated enough, I’m not self confident enough.

I’m too old, I’m too young, I’m too shy, I’m too scared

I don’t have what it takes to be successful, I’m afraid to try, I’m afraid I’ll fail

What if I fail?  What will others think of me?

I don’t have enough time, or skills, or patience, or talent, or knowledge, or motivation

I can’t . . .

I don’t deserve . . .

That’s quite a list.  I think we can all relate to some of these feelings some of the time, particularly  when facing setbacks and disappointments.

However, if these feelings become an ingrained part of your beliefs about yourself, then you’re in danger of cutting yourself off from ever feeling truly good about yourself and your accomplishments.

IT’S SO IMPORTANT THAT YOU GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK FROM THIS KIND OF SELF CRITICISM AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR GOODNESS, YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS, AND YOUR WORTHINESS!

PERFECTIONISM

This is a big issue for many people, particularly women, who strive to do things perfectly and when they fail they feel like failures.  Can you relate?

Like many of you, I wasted a number of years striving for perfection, causing me to feel that sense of failure and disappointment when I was not successful. Which was most of the time!

Then I discovered the concept that I call “GOOD ENOUGH”.  It’s a whole new way of thinking about what is possible and attainable.

I am happy to tell you that it has changed my life for the better in so many ways!

No longer do I feel miserable if I make a mistake or don’t finish a project on time.  I don’t set myself up with unattainable goals, I don’t fret if I leave certain things undone for a time.

I haven’t become lazy, far from it.  I have a list of things to accomplish each day and sometimes I don’t get them all completed.  But I usually get the important things done, and I give myself a break.

Perfectionism is not a healthy goal because it is not achievable.  It is very toxic and damaging to your inner self because it sets up an expectation that you can never live up to. Perfectionism steals your soul.

That’s where “GOOD ENOUGH” comes in.  DON’T BELIEVE ME? READ ON!

Embracing this idea is not easy for many of us, but it is a worthy goal, in my opinion, and one I hope many of you will consider.

GOOD ENOUGH is a mindset that you create to lower your expectations of what is an acceptable level of accomplishment in your own life.

Changing any habit or way of thinking takes time and work, so be patient with yourself if you take on this challenge.

It can give you a sense of freedom to no longer strive for perfection. The results for me were surprising.  I have actually become more successful in reaching my goals and accomplishing tasks by not putting needless pressure on myself!  That is truly a win!

My hope is that you will take the challenge to clean out your physical space, and then begin the task of cleaning out the Psychic Clutter that fills your mind and soul, and keeps you from living your best life!
